Hyderabad Kingsmen secured their first-ever victory with a thrilling four-wicket win over Karachi Kings in PSL 2026, chasing down a competitive target of 189 in a tense contest that went down to the final over.
Karachi Kings posted 188 for 8 after strong contributions from Saad Baig and Moeen Ali. Baig struck a composed 53 before retiring out, while Moeen played a blistering cameo of 44 off just 16 balls to lift the total in the death overs.
Kings post competitive total
Karachi’s innings began cautiously, especially with David Warner missing due to injury. Early wickets slowed momentum, but Moeen’s late assault changed the complexion of the innings.
Despite the surge, Hyderabad’s bowling unit fought back well. Hunain Shah was the standout performer, delivering an excellent spell of 3 for 19, including key breakthroughs in both the middle and death overs.
Kingsmen’s explosive start sets the tone
In reply, Hyderabad Kingsmen came out with aggressive intent. Marnus Labuschagne set the tone early with a quickfire 26 off 10 balls, while Maaz Sadaqat kept the pressure on the bowlers.
The Kingsmen raced to 76 in the powerplay, putting themselves firmly ahead in the chase. However, Karachi Kings responded strongly through Abbas Afridi and Adam Zampa, who picked up crucial wickets to shift momentum.
Zampa’s spell, combined with Afridi’s breakthroughs, reduced Kingsmen to a precarious position with the top order back in the pavilion and plenty still required.
Hassan and Irfan hold their nerve
With the game hanging in the balance, Irfan Khan and Hassan Khan stepped up with a composed and match-defining partnership. The duo added 50 runs for the seventh wicket off just 24 balls, stabilising the chase and keeping the required rate under control.
Their calculated aggression in the closing stages proved decisive. A costly over from Ihsanullah helped bring the target within reach, and the pair ensured there were no further slip-ups.
Hyderabad eventually reached 189 for 6 with five balls to spare, sealing a memorable win and opening their account in the tournament.
Breakthrough moment for Kingsmen
The victory marked a significant milestone for Hyderabad Kingsmen. After a series of near-misses, the team finally delivered under pressure, with their lower-order resilience proving the difference.
For Karachi Kings, it was another setback, as missed opportunities and lapses at key moments left them behind in a closely fought contest.
