Australia completed a dominant 3-0 clean sweep of the Women’s T20I series after defeating West Indies by 40 runs via the DLS method on Monday, March 23.
Rain halted West Indies’ pursuit of a daunting 212-run target, with the hosts stranded at 61/3 in 10 overs. Persistent showers in Kingstown for more than an hour and a half forced officials to decide the outcome through the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
Australia’s innings was powered by Georgia Voll’s stunning maiden T20I century, which came off just 52 deliveries. She joined Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy in the list of Australian women to score centuries in the format. Voll struck nine boundaries and six maximums, reaching the milestone in the 17th over before being dismissed two balls later by Hayley Matthews, who also removed Georgia Wareham in the same over to finish with figures of 3-29.
For much of the innings, Voll carried the scoring responsibility almost single-handedly, with none of the other top-five batters managing to cross 20. Australia’s final push beyond the 200-run mark was largely driven by captain Sophie Molineux, who collected 15 runs in the penultimate over and added a six in the last over to help the visitors post their fifth-highest total in Women’s T20I history. Both of Molineux’s sixes were struck over the cow-corner region, one off a full toss and the other from a free hit, ensuring a strong finish after Voll’s marathon knock — also the first century scored against West Indies in Women’s T20Is.
West Indies’ reply began on a shaky note when Qiana Joseph was bowled by Megan Schutt with the second ball of the innings while attempting to play across the line. Eboni Brathwaite and Matthews then steadied things briefly during the Powerplay, with Brathwaite launching Schutt for a six in the third over. However, Lucy Hamilton soon deceived her with a slower delivery to complete a return catch, leaving the hosts further behind at 33/3 after six overs.
Matthews and Deandra Dottin later tried to shift momentum, each clearing the midwicket boundary against Alana King, who was named Player of the Series. That brief counterattack proved to be West Indies’ final resistance before rain intervened once again, bringing an early end to proceedings.
Brief scores: Australia Women 211/7 in 20 overs (Georgia Voll 101, Sophie Molineux 25, Hayley Matthews 3-29, Jahzara Claxton 2-37) beat West Indies Women 61/3 in 10 overs (Hayley Matthews 30*, Eboni Brathwaite 18, Ellyse Perry 1-1, Megan Schutt 1-11) by 40 runs (DLS method).
