The inaugural season of the Pro10 Malaysia T10 league has descended into turmoil just 24 hours before its scheduled start on January 30, 2026. The league, co-founded by former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri and sports entrepreneur Neeraj Sareen, is facing serious accusations of financial mismanagement and fraud after reports emerged of international stars being left stranded in Kuala Lumpur.

Viral social media posts and leaked emails from the Four Points by Sheraton hotel have painted a grim picture of the tournament’s organization. According to the reports, several high-profile cricketers and coaching staff arrived at their accommodation only to find that their rooms had not been paid for and no prior bookings were confirmed.

Players Stranded and Flights Unconfirmed

The logistical failure has affected a roster of world-class talent originally signed to headline the four-day event. International stars including Andre Russell, Chris Jordan, Tom Curran, and Angelo Mathews were reportedly among those caught in the chaos.

  • Hotel Ultimatum: A leaked statement from the hotel management informed the players that due to the “non-fulfilment of agreed payment terms” by the league organizers, all stay-related charges and incidentals must now be settled by the players personally.
  • Travel Issues: In addition to the lack of accommodation, several players reported that their return flights had not been booked, leaving them in a state of uncertainty regarding their departure.
  • Financial Dispute: Sources suggest that the league’s primary sponsors or owners failed to release the necessary funds to local vendors, leading to a complete breakdown in services a day before the first ball was to be bowled.

Ravi Shastri and Sir Viv Richards Under Fire

As a co-founder and the face of the Pro10 brand, Ravi Shastri is facing intense scrutiny from the cricketing community. The league, which was launched with much fanfare in November 2025, also featured West Indian legend Sir Viv Richards as its brand ambassador.

While Shastri has not yet issued an official response, the scandal threatens to overshadow the league’s stated mission of “grassroots development” in Southeast Asia. For the unversed, the Pro10 model was designed to expand cricket into non-traditional markets like Thailand, Bulgaria, and Malaysia, pairing local talent with global superstars.

Impact on Scotland’s T20 World Cup Preparations

The timing of the crisis is particularly unfortunate for several Scotland internationals, including George Munsey, who had signed up for the league. Following Bangladesh’s recent withdrawal from the 2026 T20 World Cup over security disputes with the ICC, Scotland was handed a “wildcard” entry into the tournament.

The stranded Scottish players are now racing against time to leave Malaysia and join their national camp as they prepare for the World Cup, which begins on February 7. With the Pro10 league now on the verge of cancellation, the focus shifts to whether the organizers can provide a safe exit for the “stranded” players and resolve the growing list of unpaid debts.
