Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma added another golden chapter to Indian cricket history by becoming the first Indian pair to play 400 international matches together. The remarkable milestone came during the third and final ODI against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The Virat Kohli – Rohit Sharma 400th match together achievement is a reflection of the duo’s consistency, fitness, and dominance over nearly two decades. Since making their international debuts in 2007 and 2008 respectively, Rohit and Kohli have been at the heart of India’s success across all three formats.

A Historic Milestone for Indian Cricket

The Lord’s ODI was more than just a series decider. It became a memorable occasion as Rohit and Kohli reached an incredible landmark that no other Indian pair has achieved before.

The two cricket legends have now shared the field in:

  • 234 One-Day Internationals
  • 60 Test matches
  • 106 T20 Internationals

That takes their total to 400 international matches together, making them the first Indian teammates to reach the milestone. After retiring from Tests and T20 Internationals, ODIs remain the only format in which both continue to represent India.

The Kohli – Rohit historic record highlights the incredible longevity and success of two of India’s greatest cricketers.

A Brilliant Partnership at Lord’s

The milestone became even more special as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli delivered with the bat during India’s challenging chase of England’s massive total of 387 for 3.

The pair added a superb 113 runs for the second wicket in just 86 balls, giving India hope in a difficult run chase. It was another example of the understanding they have developed after batting together for so many years.

Rohit led the charge with a magnificent 138 off 110 balls, becoming the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord’s. Kohli played the perfect supporting role with an important 77 runs, helping India stay in the contest.

Despite their outstanding efforts, India eventually fell short by 27 runs as England secured victory in the high-scoring encounter.

Another Record Added to Their Legacy

Their 113-run partnership was not just important for the match. It also became their 21st century partnership in One-Day Internationals.

That achievement moved Rohit and Kohli past Sri Lankan greats Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan, who had 20 century stands together. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly remain ahead of them with 26 hundred partnerships in ODI cricket.

The latest milestone further strengthens their place among the greatest batting pairs in the history of the game.

Where They Rank in World Cricket

Rohit and Kohli had already become India’s most successful international pair after going past Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid’s record of 391 matches together.

Globally, they now sit seventh on the all-time list for the most international matches played together. Sri Lankan legends Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene continue to lead the chart with 550 matches.

The Virat Kohli – Rohit Sharma 400th match together milestone is another reminder of the impact both players have had on Indian cricket. Their partnership has produced countless memorable victories, broken several records, and inspired millions of fans. Even after retiring from two formats, the duo continues to create history every time they step onto the field together, adding another unforgettable chapter to their remarkable careers.
