Gujarat Titans secured a thrilling one-run victory over Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 in a dramatic finish to register their first win of the season.
Chasing 211, Delhi Capitals fell just short despite a superb innings from KL Rahul, who struck 92 off 52 balls. The game came down to the final delivery, where Prasidh Krishna executed a slower bouncer that David Miller failed to connect with, before Jos Buttler completed a direct-hit run-out of Kuldeep Yadav from behind the stumps.
Miller had the chance to seal the chase but refused a single off the penultimate ball with two needed from two deliveries, a moment that proved decisive. Although he reviewed the final ball for a potential wide, replays confirmed the decision, leaving Delhi one run short at 209/8.
Final Over Drama
Delhi required 13 runs from the final over, bowled by Prasidh Krishna, whose earlier spells had gone for 41 runs. Vipraj Nigam struck a boundary off the first ball but was dismissed on the next delivery, caught by Shubman Gill.
With nine needed from four balls, Kuldeep Yadav managed a single, leaving Miller to take control. Miller responded with a six over long-off, bringing the equation down to two off two. However, his decision not to take a single on the next delivery shifted the pressure entirely onto the final ball, where Gujarat held firm to seal the win.
Rahul Leads the Chase
Rahul anchored Delhi’s innings with a fluent knock, reaching a half-century off 29 balls. He attacked the pace bowlers with confidence, playing a range of aggressive strokes and keeping the chase on track.
His innings also helped Delhi recover from key setbacks, including a double blow from Rashid Khan, who dismissed Nitish Rana and Sameer Rizvi in quick succession. Rashid also accounted for Axar Patel in the same phase, briefly putting Gujarat in control.
Despite these breakthroughs, Rahul’s presence ensured Delhi remained in contention until the closing stages. He was eventually dismissed by Mohammed Siraj with 45 needed from the final three overs.
Rashid’s Impact in Middle Overs
Rashid Khan delivered a crucial spell, finishing with 3/17. His wickets came at a key moment in the innings, slowing Delhi’s momentum and opening the door for Gujarat to claw back into the contest.
Gujarat’s Strong Batting Effort
Earlier, Gujarat Titans posted 210/4, built on half-centuries from Shubman Gill (70), Jos Buttler (52), and Washington Sundar (55).
Buttler provided early momentum with an aggressive start, hitting multiple sixes in the powerplay. Gill then settled in before accelerating, while Sundar, batting at No. 4, registered his maiden IPL fifty to consolidate the innings.
Despite a slower finish that saw Gujarat score 49 runs in the final five overs, their total proved just enough in a tightly contested match.
The result marked Gujarat’s first win of IPL 2026, while Delhi Capitals suffered their first defeat after beginning the season with two consecutive victories.
