Kolkata Knight Riders head into IPL 2026 with a squad that appears strong on paper, both statistically and in terms of recent performances. While the team is viewed as a serious contender for a playoff berth, its depth extends beyond established names to include several uncapped players who could emerge as surprise contributors during the campaign.
The likely playing XI features well-known performers supported by experienced backups. However, there are also newcomers set to make their IPL debuts who could provide valuable breakthroughs and potentially develop into hidden assets for the side.
Players who could emerge as hidden gems for KKR
Daksh Kamra
Daksh Kamra could offer KKR an option similar in style to Varun Chakaravarthy during the 2026 season. The mystery spinner has built a reputation in domestic cricket, with his performance against Chhattisgarh at the DY Patil Stadium in February drawing particular attention.
Representing Mumbai Customs in that match, Kamra returned figures of two wickets from four overs while conceding 28 runs. The 22-year-old, known for delivering leg-break googlies, also contributes with the bat and presents a challenge for both left- and right-handed batters.
Although he may not be a regular selection in the early stages of the tournament, the INR 30 lakh recruit could develop into a useful spin option for Kolkata if he capitalises on his chances. His skill set may prove especially effective on surfaces such as those at Mullanpur and the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Tejasvi Dahiya
Tejasvi Singh Dahiya joined the franchise during the IPL 2026 auction for INR 3 crore. He has appeared in eight List A fixtures and six T20 matches, recording an average of 56.50 in the latter format alongside a strike rate of 168.65.
A self-confessed admirer of Virender Sehwag, Dahiya was the top six-hitter in the DPL 2025, hitting 29 sixes and scoring 339 runs at a strike rate close to 200. With Andre Russell no longer part of the set-up, his aggressive batting could offer a potential solution to KKR’s middle-order challenges.
Alongside Rinku Singh, Dahiya’s ability to accelerate scoring may help stabilise the side from the middle overs through to the death, particularly if the top order fails to build a strong platform following Cameron Green’s contributions. The wicketkeeper-batter could be preserved for key matches later in the season rather than being exposed early in the campaign.
Prashant Solanki
Leg-spinner Prashant Solanki is another addition secured for INR 30 lakh at the IPL 2026 auction. He has the potential to form an effective spin partnership with Sunil Narine on surfaces that favour slower bowlers. While immediate opportunities may be limited, his recent domestic form has strengthened his case for selection in important games.
During the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite competition, Solanki claimed four wickets in the sole match he played against Goa. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he took six wickets from seven matches. He also impressed in the Maharashtra Premier League, collecting 17 wickets in nine matches with an economy rate of 7.24 and registering two four-wicket hauls.
KKR could look to use Solanki either as an impact substitute or as cover for Varun Chakaravarthy in the event of injuries. The team management may choose to deploy him strategically during crucial fixtures while maintaining depth in their spin resources throughout the tournament.
