Rajasthan Royals (RR) have suffered a setback ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, with England all-rounder Sam Curran expected to miss the tournament due to a suspected groin injury.
Curran last featured on March 5 during the 2026 T20 World Cup, where England were defeated by eventual champions India in the semi-final.
The 27-year-old was set to make his debut for Rajasthan Royals after joining the franchise through a trade with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in November. As part of that deal, Curran and India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja moved to RR, while India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson — recently named Player of the Tournament at the T20 World Cup — joined CSK.
Had he been available, RR would have become the third IPL franchise Curran represented. He began his league journey with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2019 before turning out for CSK in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He later returned to PBKS in 2023 as the tournament’s most expensive signing at INR 18.5 crore and continued with the side in 2024. Curran was re-signed by CSK for INR 2.4 crore ahead of IPL 2025, finishing that season with 114 runs and one wicket from five matches.
There has been no official confirmation regarding a potential replacement, although the franchise is understood to be assessing possible options. Alongside Jadeja, RR also have all-rounder Donovan Ferreira in their squad.
