Pakistan faced Bangladesh in the opening match of the three-ODI series on Wednesday, March 11, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The contest proved to be a disappointing start for the Shaheen Afridi-led side, who suffered a comprehensive defeat in the series opener.

Pakistan, featuring four debutants in the match, were put in to bat first. Their innings faltered early as they were bundled out for just 114 runs. Fast bowler Nahid Rana led Bangladesh’s charge with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul that left the visitors struggling to recover.

In response, Bangladesh dispelled any concerns about difficult batting conditions by completing the chase comfortably within 16 overs. Tanzid Hasan anchored the innings with an unbeaten 67 from 42 deliveries, striking seven fours and five sixes.

The emphatic result also saw multiple statistical milestones being achieved during the Pakistan vs Bangladesh 1st ODI.

Shaheen Afridi Reacts to Pakistan’s Loss

Reflecting on the defeat, Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi acknowledged the challenges his side faced during the match.

“I think we started well, but then, Nahid came in and rattled us. I think we bowled really well. The start we wanted, we did not achieve in the first game. This is a young team, and I will back this team till the end,” Shaheen remarked in post-match conversation.

“When you lose a match, there are a lot of points you can mention. In one-day cricket, you need partnerships, both in batting and bowling. There are still two games left, and we will focus on the next one,” he added.

Pakistan and Bangladesh are scheduled to meet again in the second ODI on Friday, March 13, at the same venue in Mirpur.
