Rajasthan Royals chased down 202 with six wickets in hand to defeat Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash in Guwahati, powered by explosive innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel.
RCB posted 201 for 8 in their 20 overs, with Rajat Patidar top-scoring with 63 and Virat Kohli contributing 32. In reply, RR finished on 202 for 4, with Sooryavanshi smashing 78 and Jurel remaining unbeaten on 81 to seal their fourth consecutive win.
Sooryavanshi sets the tone
Sooryavanshi delivered a breathtaking start, equalling his own record for the fastest IPL half-century off just 15 balls. His innings of 78 came off 26 deliveries and included seven sixes, as he dismantled RCB’s bowling attack.
After Josh Hazlewood removed Yashasvi Jaiswal early, Sooryavanshi quickly took control, striking boundaries across all regions. If it was Jasprit Bumrah in the rain-affected game against MI in Guwahati, it was now Josh Hazlewood’s turn to face Sooryavanshi’s blockbuster opening act.
Sooryavanshi attacked both Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, bringing up his fifty with consecutive sixes in the powerplay. By the time he was dismissed by Krunal Pandya, RR’s required rate had dropped significantly, with the chase well under control.
Jurel anchors the chase
While Sooryavanshi provided the fireworks, Dhruv Jurel matched the tempo with a fluent innings. He played a key role in RR’s dominant powerplay, which yielded 97 runs—the highest of the season.
Jurel later adjusted his approach after a brief cluster of wickets and guided the innings with composure, finishing unbeaten on 81 off 43 balls. His 68-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja ensured RR crossed the line comfortably despite a quieter middle phase.
Archer and Bishnoi strike for RR
Earlier, Jofra Archer made an immediate impact by dismissing Phil Salt for a golden duck with a sharp bouncer. Virat Kohli responded with three boundaries in Archer’s next over, but Archer struck again to remove Devdutt Padikkal.
RCB’s innings was further checked by Ravi Bishnoi, who picked up two quick wickets to leave them at 73 for 4.
Patidar leads RCB recovery
Rajat Patidar rebuilt the innings after the early setbacks. He reached his half-century off 35 balls, accelerating after a measured start. His innings included two sixes off Nandre Burger that highlighted his control and timing.
Venkatesh Iyer, introduced as an impact player, added an unbeaten 29 off 15 balls to push RCB past the 200 mark. However, the total proved insufficient against RR’s aggressive chase.
What’s next
RCB will next face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 12, while Rajasthan Royals travel to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 13.
