The IPL 2026 leaderboard race took another dramatic turn after Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad, with both the Orange Cap and Purple Cap standings seeing key shifts. For a short period on Tuesday evening, the IPL 2026 Orange Cap race looked like a throwback to 2025. The Purple Cap leaderboard also saw notable movement.
Orange Cap: Sudharsan Climbs, Klaasen Holds Firm
B Sai Sudharsan (who won the Orange Cap in IPL 2025) briefly surged to the top of the Orange Cap standings after a fluent 61, continuing his remarkable consistency this season. The GT opener has now crossed the 500-run mark, becoming one of only two batters to do so in IPL 2026.
However, Heinrich Klaasen quickly reclaimed control. Despite managing just 14 in the chase, Klaasen moved past Sudharsan’s tally and continues to wear the Orange Cap with 508 runs.
Sudharsan sits just behind with 501, while Abhishek Sharma (481), KL Rahul (477), and Shubman Gill (467) complete a tightly packed top five.
Purple Cap: Rabada Joins Bhuvneshwar at the Top
In the bowling charts, Kagiso Rabada delivered a match-winning spell to draw level with Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the top of the Purple Cap standings.
Rabada’s 3 for 28 – striking early in the powerplay – took him to 21 wickets, matching Bhuvneshwar’s tally. However, the RCB pacer retains the Purple Cap due to his superior economy rate (7.46 compared to Rabada’s 9.15). Bhuvneshwar also has the chance to extend his lead when he faces Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) tonight.
Chasing Pack Tightens
The race behind the leaders is equally intense. Anshul Kamboj (19 wickets) remains close, while Prince Yadav, Rashid Khan, and Eshan Malinga all sit on 16 wickets.
Further down, GT bowlers Prasidh Krishna and Jason Holder made significant gains. Prasidh moved to 14 wickets after his return, while Holder’s impressive strike rate has taken him to 13 wickets in just six matches.
Race Intensifies
With multiple players crossing key milestones and only a handful of matches left, both the Orange and Purple Cap races remain wide open. Consistency at the top and impact performances in crunch games are now likely to decide who finishes IPL 2026 as the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker.
