Gautam Gambhir is currently enjoying a break with his family in Singapore following India’s victory at the T20 World Cup 2026. Accompanied by his wife Natasha and daughters Aazeen and Anaiza, the head coach has taken time off after an intense campaign.
India’s title win came after a dominant 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Gambhir’s family was present at the venue, adding to the significance of the moment. During the trip, he was seen unwinding and sharing relaxed moments with his daughters, including carrying his younger child on his shoulders while strolling around.
The triumph marked a historic milestone for India, who became the first team to secure three T20 World Cup titles and the first to successfully defend the trophy.
For Gambhir, the achievement holds additional importance. He was part of India’s victorious squad at the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup under MS Dhoni and has now celebrated the title again as head coach, placing him among the select few to have lifted the trophy in both roles.
Before taking over the national team, Gambhir enjoyed success in the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders, which contributed to his appointment as India’s head coach following Rahul Dravid.
Gambhir’s involvement during India’s T20 World Cup campaign
Throughout the T20 World Cup 2026, Gambhir maintained an active presence with the squad, emphasising unity and team culture alongside tactical responsibilities.
Ahead of a group-stage fixture, he invited players and support staff to his New Delhi residence for dinner, personally welcoming them alongside his family as part of efforts to strengthen team bonding.
He remained closely engaged with individuals during the tournament, including holding discussions with Abhishek Sharma — along with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate — during a period of challenging form. Prior to a key match against West Indies, Gambhir also visited the Kalighat Temple.
Since succeeding Rahul Dravid, Gambhir has overseen the development of a strong T20 side. Under his guidance, with Suryakumar Yadav as captain, India have remained unbeaten in bilateral T20I series and recorded wins over Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand.
India’s packed international calendar ahead
Following IPL 2026, India are set for an extensive international schedule stretching into early 2027, with commitments across all formats.
The upcoming assignments begin with a home series against Afghanistan, featuring one Test in Mullanpur and three ODIs scheduled in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai in June.
India will then travel to Ireland for T20Is, with dates yet to be finalised, before heading to England for a white-ball tour consisting of five T20Is and three ODIs in July.
Subsequently, the team is set to tour Sri Lanka for two Tests and three T20Is, with the red-ball matches forming part of the World Test Championship cycle.
During August and September, India are due to face Afghanistan again in the United Arab Emirates for three T20Is. A proposed tour of Bangladesh for limited-overs matches is also under consideration, pending government approval, while a short T20I series in Zimbabwe is expected.
Later in the year, West Indies are scheduled to visit India for three ODIs and five T20Is. Around the same period, India will participate in the Asian Games 2026 in Japan, which could see the use of separate squads.
From October to December, India are set for an extended tour of New Zealand featuring five ODIs, five T20Is and two Tests, with the latter contributing to the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
Sri Lanka will then tour India in December for three ODIs and three T20Is. The international season is set to conclude with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home, a five-Test series against Australia slated for January–February 2027.
