Karnataka is on the verge of securing its place in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy final, where they are expected to face a historic opponent in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). Having finished the league stage with 27 points—surpassing J&K’s 24—the eight-time champions have earned the right to host the championship match, which is scheduled to begin on February 24, 2026.

The KSCA Rajnagar Stadium in Hubballi has emerged as the most likely venue for the marquee event. While the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) on the outskirts of Bengaluru was considered, officials are wary of the venue’s “closed-doors” nature. Meanwhile, the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium remains unavailable as it continues essential security and civil upgrades following the investigation into the 2025 IPL victory stampede.

Key Highlights of the Final Matchup

  • J&K’s Fairytale Run: For the first time in their 67-year history, Jammu & Kashmir has reached the Ranji Trophy final after a stunning six-wicket victory over powerhouse Bengal in the semifinals.
  • Padikkal’s Injury Update: Captain Devdutt Padikkal, who recently smashed a career-best 232 in the semifinal against Uttarakhand, is expected to lead Karnataka despite suffering a cut on his right hand while fielding.
  • A Shift to North Karnataka: Choosing Hubballi aligns with KSCA President Venkatesh Prasad’s mission to decentralize top-tier cricket and bring major fixtures to fans outside of Bengaluru.
  • Dominant Form: Karnataka enters the final after a massive performance against Uttarakhand, led by R. Smaran’s twin centuries and a significant first-innings lead that effectively sealed their progression by Day 4.

The decision to avoid the Alur Grounds for the final stems from its limited broadcasting infrastructure and lack of spectator seating. By moving the game to Hubballi, the association hopes to provide a seamless viewing experience for the thousands of fans expected to witness Karnataka’s hunt for their ninth title.
