Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his remarkable form in IPL 2026, delivering another explosive cameo as Rajasthan Royals secured a 27-run win over Mumbai Indians in a rain-shortened encounter.
Led by Riyan Parag, Rajasthan Royals extended their unbeaten run, with their opening pair once again playing a decisive role. In an 11-over contest, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi powered the side to 150, laying the foundation for an amazing victory.
While Jaiswal’s unbeaten half-century placed him at the top of the Orange Cap standings, Sooryavanshi’s 39 off 14 balls stood out for its impact. The innings also saw the 15-year-old achieve a significant milestone, surpassing established names such as Andre Russell in a key power-hitting metric.
Record-Breaking Six-Hitting Form
Sooryavanshi’s ability to clear the boundary has been a defining feature of his campaign. Earlier in the tournament, he struck a rapid half-century against Chennai Super Kings, reaching the milestone in just 15 deliveries with four boundaries and five sixes.
He followed that with a 30-run cameo against Gujarat Titans before adding another quickfire innings against Mumbai Indians. Across the season so far, he has already struck 11 sixes.
From a statistical standpoint, Sooryavanshi has hit 35 sixes in just 10 IPL innings, facing 171 balls. This gives him a balls-per-six ratio of 4.88 — the best among all batters who have faced at least 20 deliveries in IPL history.
Best Balls-Per-Six Ratio in IPL (Min. 20 Balls)
- Vaibhav Sooryavanshi – 4.88
- Romario Shepherd – 5.1
- Urvil Patel – 5.3
- Jake Fraser-McGurk – 6.4
- Andre Russell – 6.8
This places him ahead of several known power-hitters, underlining his efficiency in converting deliveries into maximums.
Royals Maintain Momentum
Rajasthan Royals’ aggressive start with the bat proved decisive in the match. Chasing 151, Mumbai Indians were unable to build momentum and were restricted to 123 for 9 in their 11 overs.
The victory ensured Royals maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament. They are set to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their next group-stage fixture on April 10 at the Barsapara Stadium.
